Städel Museum

The Stadel Museum is one of the most famous and important art museums in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It was founded in 1815 by the banker and merchant Johann Friedrich Städel, who donated his private collection of paintings, drawings and prints to the public. The museum has since expanded its collection to include works from the 14th century to the present day, covering various artistic movements and styles. Some of the highlights of the museum are:

  • The Renaissance section, which features masterpieces by Albrecht Dürer, Hans Holbein the Younger, Sandro Botticelli, Lucas Cranach the Elder and others.
  • The Baroque section, which showcases works by Rembrandt van Rijn, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Claude Lorrain and others.
  • The Classical Modernism section, which displays works by Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Max Beckmann and others.
  • The Contemporary Art section, which exhibits works by Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Cindy Sherman and others.

The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, educational programs, events and publications. The museum is located on the Schaumainkai, along the river Main, and has a beautiful garden with sculptures and a café-restaurant. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00, and on Thursday until 21:00. The admission fee is 18 € for regular visitors, and 16 € for reduced visitors. You can also buy a MuseumsuferCard, which gives you free entry to the museum and other museums along the river for one year.
